TrueBeam innovative radiation therapy for patients with cancer

The TrueBeam device is preferred and recommended in oncology treatment, as the latest and most innovative system in radiation oncology. TrueBeam combines different treatment platforms in one device: computed tomography, radiotherapy and radiosurgery. The technology makes it possible to monitor the tumor in real time by synchronizing the doses with the images, which is especially important in mobile organs such as the pancreas, lungs, prostate, rectum and breast.

Thanks to TrueBeam's high-dose rays, cancer patients can be treated both faster and without damaging the tissues and organs close to the treated one.

In the treatment of cancer patients, the most commonly used methods are radiation therapy and chemotherapy. In this group, radiation oncology affects a significant number of patients. In radiation therapy, the extermination of cancer cells is directed by giving high-dose rays to the organs covered by tumors.

When using the classic method, radiation therapy can affect organs other than the organs being treated, causing additional damage. Both 3D treatment and radiation-modulated radiation therapy and volumetric ARC treatment can be performed together with a TrueBeam device, which is often used around the world as an innovative method of treatment. The TrueBeam device enables stereotactic body radiotherapy, which is an innovative linear accelerator for the treatment of cancer patients. Truebeam is a device with a wide range in terms of providing all types of treatment. Along with the model that applies intensively modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic radiation therapy of the body can be performed with TrueBeam STx.

The stereotactic body radiotherapy administered with TrueBeam STx is presented as a very practical treatment, as in this way the hospital stays of the patients are significantly shortened and the dose is increased within one day. Doctors believe that with this method the probability of tumor ejection in one session is very high and the time spent in a clinical institution becomes very short. As an example, they give lung cancer, in which the treatment can be completed within a week, applying three doses on alternate days. This device is also quite effective in liver metastases. For metastases of 3 cm or less, stereotactic body therapy with 4 fractions or by increasing to 5 fractions according to size, can completely focus on the area with metastases. Here it is important to suppress breathing and to determine the exact purpose with the help of certain applicators. By keeping the patient in the correct position, the dose absolutely necessary and sufficient to counteract the area of liver metastases three or four times can be administered.

The organs are different, the device is the same
TrueBeam is important in the treatment of breast, lung, gastrointestinal and especially rectal cancers. In addition to this group, there are patients who could receive effective treatment of the esophagus only after adequate consultation with the attending physician. In addition to the above diseases, Truebeam is also useful in brain tumors, but requires a little more applications and of course the opinion of the treating specialist.

No impact on everyday life
In cancer treatment, surgery and chemotherapy procedures can affect the quality of life of patients. However, this problem does not occur in radiation therapy. Especially when performed correctly and if normal tissues are protected with appropriate doses, this does not have a significant effect on the patient's daily work.

Millimeter treatment is prescribed
Radiotherapy procedures performed with TrueBeam last approximately 10-15 minutes, starting from the patient's preparation process to the end of treatment. Therefore, patients can go to work, drive and continue their social life after this treatment, without experiencing any pain.

TrueBeam is an open-top device that has a handle that rotates around the patient. In this way, patients who feel uncomfortable with covered areas such as an MRI device can easily receive treatment. Patients stand in a comfortable position. Once fixed, they lie down in this way for 10 minutes. In the meantime, treatment is prescribed. The device has the ability to extract an image from different angles. The rotating handle can be aimed at the planned field from a very wide angle. The board on which the patient lies moves in six directions, which makes it possible to apply treatment in very thin and sensitive areas with millimeter accuracy.

For which diseases TrueBeam is recommended
TrueBeam is a treatment device that can perform 3D radiation therapy in a more advanced way. In addition, it is also very suitable for use in intensively modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and post-imaging radiation therapy (IGRT). Determining the goal and giving the required dose by preserving the intact tissues are essential in radiation oncology. However, patients are living organisms, so many tissues and organs continue their routine functionality. Heart rate and continuity of breathing cause movement and change in the location of many organs.

Breast tumors
One of the diseases in which the TrueBeam treatment device exceeds standard chemotherapy is breast cancer. When the breast is irradiated, the intensity is modulated during the radiotherapy and the maximum dose of the breast is applied. At the same time, a different dose may be administered in the area where the tumor is located. On the other hand, the lungs, esophagus and heart are preserved at the same time and are not affected at all. Treatment can also be completed quickly. Patients with breast cancer can be treated with both long and short course radiotherapy. For example, a period of six weeks can be reduced to 16-18 days.

Rectum tumors
CT and PET CT are used to plan the treatment of tumors observed in the rectum. PET CT scan helps doctors. With this imaging method, the data can be seen after placing the patient in an appropriate position. PET is used to identify the least prominent areas of the tumor and areas where the disease is absent, and treatment planning is done accordingly. The boundaries of the area to be irradiated and the doses to be used are also adjusted. These features are the advantage of working with PET. By scheduling with PET CT, patients can receive higher doses, especially for areas with rectal tumors and lower doses in areas where pelvic lymph nodes are present.

Lung tumors
The treatment of lung tumors with the help of stereotactic body radiotherapy is planned with PET CT and is performed by high-dose irradiation to the area where there is full irradiation. Similarly, because PET takes a little longer, four-dimensional therapies can be performed by tracking the movement caused by breathing.

Especially in early and advanced lung tumors, esophageal reactions predominate in pulmonary irradiation. When radiation therapy is given with chemotherapy, a high level of esophageal sensitivity may prevent treatment from being completed. However, with TrueBeam treatment, the esophagus is much better protected and the desired dose can be effectively applied to the lung tissue without any additional damage.

TrueBeam treatment offers clinicians intelligent tools for a wide range of advanced treatment options, which include rapid imaging and accurate application of a dose designed to help the complex treatment of cancer patients.
